What a Monitored Sitting records
A monitored sitting produces a small, factual record attached to one attempt. It is written silently while the student works; the student is never told which signal fired.
- A yellow mark after 30 seconds without any pointer, key, touch, wheel or scroll input.
- A red mark after 60 seconds of the same inactivity, plus a reason-free notice on screen.
- A mark when the browser tab is hidden, and a separate mark when the test window loses focus while still visible.
- For every mark: the attempt, student name and roll number, institute, teacher, test, module, the idle duration where relevant, and the time.
- Time spent with the tab hidden is counted as leaving the sitting, not as inactivity, so one absence is never punished twice.
Reading a passage or listening carefully without moving the mouse can produce a red mark. That is expected, and it is why the student is shown a notice instead of an accusation and why an institute should review a record before drawing a conclusion.
